When I first saw the “Coke Angel” or “Ang Sarap dito by Coke” TV ad, or whatever they may call it. It is really stunning and exciting to watch. Even now, I’m still watching it over and over again, I just love the feeling that it delivers to its viewers. Truly a remarkable artwork. Of course I considered the TV ad very complicated to do. Here take a look.
Starting from it’s unique idea that an angel came to earth because she was kinda bothered about the super-loudness “AHHHHH” of people drinking the yummy Coke. Of course the angel tried some coke and the amazing switch, which the devil shows up. This is where many got caught (even me) and said “Wow! The ad is great!”. Who doesn’t want to give a “Wow!” to this ad’s storyboard drawings. See that. Wawwww…
The visual effects is really breath-taking. Many will just say it’s just “good looking”. But in real world it’s totally complicated. The clouds with it’s shivering lighting of the sun is very realistic. Taking to account the uber-looking-super-white wings that made the angel gone to earth. And ohh I also found out that the wing prop was made with real goose feathers, totally amazing!
The audio mixing is ear-smoothing. The music came from Ang Sarap Dito by Project 1 but of course it needs some remix to jive the Ad. The sound design company which is Song Zu from Singapore really made it to a top notch quality.
The models we’re so uber-nice looking. The lovely angel is a Brazilian model namely Michelle Dantes and the devil with the burning horn-like-hellboy is Benjamin Tang, a German-Vietnamese model.
The overall TV ad was made in Bangkok. Maybe you’re asking on why make it there and not here in Philippines.
Just lately I’ve read a lengthy comment made by Gerry Cacanindin, a Filipino who is part of the production. Which explains why the production was not made by all Pinoy.
This is not to say that Pinoy artists are inferior. Those machines they use require more than artistry. You really have to know them inside and out to get the best out of them. Filipino digital artists are still learning the machines here whereas the people working in Bangkok know every little trick the machine is capable of.
The angel wings in our commercial were rendered by a French guy, Olivier. He’s one of the best CGI artists in Asia and it shows in his work.
Now why we chose Bangkok as the location of the shoot is just a matter of logistics. Since we were doing the post production in Bangkok anyway, whether we shot it here in Manila or some place else, it would be wiser to just do everything in Bangkok as that would simplify things since we were pressed to deliver by April 6 (the first time this ad aired).
We were just after the best quality possible

So that explains everything folks.
See Gerry Cacanindin’s posts here and here (Photos are also available in those links, just for the credit :D). He also made a blog just for the TV ad. See it here.

Hi Marlo,
Thanks for linking the Coke Angel TV post on your site. And thanks also for appreciating the work.
Sorry, I have little idea what you do since I haven’t yet read through your site. But I guess you’re a graphic artist. I’ll be visiting from time to time to, though.
Again, thanks!
